Flight Simulator at
L.E.R.

Providing students with
enrichment in not a new at L.E.R., but learning how to fly a plane using
a flight simulator is certainly a new enrichment endeavor. The 866 Royal
Canadian Air Cadet Squadron under the command of Capt. R.J. Chiasson use
the simulator to train cadets interested in working towards their
'Glider's Wings'. For further information about joining The 866
Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron , call 684-4257 or 684-0855.

From Intercom. to Internet: Morning
Announcements Go High Tech.

"Wakey, Wakey News." The morning
announcements at L.E.R. have gone high tech. as they are now a live
video broadcast. Each classroom of the L.E.R. is equipped with smart
boards, which are basically large, interactive computer monitors.
Students are selected to co-anchor the show with their principal.
Computer specialist Kevin Legacy, who was instrumental in the setting up
of the system along with computer specialist Dave Wilson, is amazed at
the rapid integration of technology at L.E.R. "The willingness of
teachers to implement these technological advancements is certainly an
enhancement to the curriculum. This is unquestionably 21st century
education!"

Helping the Community...With a
Little Bit of 'Change'

Click Photo to Enlarge
Over the past few weeks, Ms. Grant's and Mrs.
Stimson's grade 2 students have been exploring the unit entitled
'You and Your World.' The students uncovered many things
including learning about those in 'charge' of making changes in
their community, and they decided that they wanted to 'take
charge' as well. They determined that money needed to be raised
for the SPCA. From January 27 to February 10, the grade two
class collected Canadian Tire money for the SPCA. They even
convinced the whole school to get involved! They raised over
$148! On February 11, the grade two class was visited by Brenda
from the SPCA. She didn't come alone; however, Cooper-a dog that
was rescued from a puppy mill-came for a visit too. Even though
the project is completed, the collection never stops! Donations
for the SPCA can be sent to our school, or dropped off directly
at the SPCA. Congratulations Ms. Grant and Mrs. Stimson
for empowering your students. Congratulations grade two
for showing how a little bit of 'change' can make positive
'change' in your community.
