Always Looking at Improving School Culture

Student reading morning video news.

Grade Five student Taylor R. was all cheers as she delivered video annoucements the other day. Taylor was cheering on fellow students who are working at lowering noise levels in the cafeteria. Students monitor their noise level via an electronic traffic light that flashes red when the noise level goes beyond our decibel target.  Students have been discussing with their teachers the importance of keeping noise levels down as some students have sensory issues where noise can be quite uncomfortable. During the annoucements, Taylor reminded students to continue to ask themselves: "How is my behavior (i.e. noise level) affecting others?

As part of L.E.R's Positive Learning and Working Environment Plan, this Positive Behavior Intervention Support has been established. Various rewards for meeting decibel level targets have been earned thus far (i.e. Ice cream party; visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause etc.). Students are now working towards their latest decibel target, and later will celebrate its achievement with a visit from magician Don Bernard.
